The Speech and Language Therapy (S<) Department in Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board is holding a Careers Day on Tuesday 17th November 2015 from 9.30am – 4.00pm. The purpose of this day is to offer students the opportunity to explore S< as a career option.
Speech and Language Therapists are allied health professionals. They have been trained to assess, diagnose and treat children and adults who have difficulties with speech, language and communication, or with eating, drinking and swallowing disorders. Speech and Language Therapists work in many settings such as Hospitals, Community Clinics, Schools, Play Groups and the home working with many different clinical conditions across the life course.
For more information about S< as a career, please visit the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists website www.rcslt.org. In addition, the following link will direct you to the Careers Guide Booklet: http://www.rcslt.org/speech_and_language_therapy/careers/career
You can also view our S< web page on the ABMU website: http://www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/863/page/54322
Our Careers Day will include a workshop, video material and presentations from experienced Speech and Language Therapists who work with a range of adult and paediatric client groups. There will also be an opportunity to meet newly qualified therapists who can offer valuable insight into applying and studying for a career in Speech and Language Therapy.
This could form part of the work experience requirement for students in your school/college.
We will have a limited number of places, so please could you advise any interested students (Year 10 or above) to contact Judith Williams (01656 752143) to register and request an information pack. Pre-booking a place is essential.
