Seren Hub Launch

High-achieving students from St Joseph’s Sixth Form are to benefit from a new and exciting initiative which will offer support and guidance to those seeking top university places.

The regional launch of the Welsh Government’s nationwide Seren Hub took place today (Monday 25th January) and was attended by Huw Lewis, the Minister of Education & Skills, along with university and local representatives.

Our students have been invited to form part of the Seren Network which will support Wales’ brightest pupils to fulfil their academic potential.

Mr Don Prosser (Head of Sixth Form), said: “The Seren Hub is an exciting new initiative involving schools and colleges across Wales to develop a programme of support for high-achievers across the region.

“Teachers will be working together to deliver a co-ordinated programme of activity for high-achievers, designed to strengthen and challenge individuals beyond the A-Level curriculum. It gives us the opportunity to access information, activities and personnel from leading UK universities, including Oxford and Cambridge, to ensure that our students are provided with the most up-to-date advice and support, along with lectures from some of the country’s leading academics in order to make their university and course choices.”

St Joseph’s played an active part in the launch event with one of our Year 13 students, Jess Williams, presenting a case study on her university application process and Oxford interview experience.
