During the last few days of the Easter holidays our intrepid Santiago Pilgrims continued their training for their pilgrimage with a Cycle Camp Challenge.
‘The Challenge’ involved a 120 mile cycle over a 48 hour period – excellent preparation for the groups adventure this July in Santiago.
The group left St Joseph’s at 2pm on Wednesday afternoon to make their way along a very windswept track to Pembrey Country Park in Llanelli for their first night of camping. The second day involved a long day’s ride to Llandovery along the National Cycle Path through Carmarthen, Llandeilo, Bethlehem (!), Llangadog and on to Llandovery. The group make excellent time during the day and arrived at camp by 6pm. The final day saw a return to Llangadog before heading up the Black Mountain before descending into Brynamman and Ystalyfera before returning to St Joseph’s by mid-afternoon.
The whole challenge was very successful and aswell as affording students the opportunity to experience 3 days of consecutive cycling (which will prepare them well for the Summer) but many used the opportunity to collect sponsorship to offset the cost of their pilgrimage.
