Home to School Transport Consultation Assistance

We encourage as many pupils, parents, parishioners, past pupils and friends of St Joseph’s to complete the very brief consultation form regarding the proposed Home to School Transport Policy.

If anyone would like any assistance in completing their response or require access to resources (to access the council website) then you are welcome to visit the school at any time on Thursday, Friday and Monday (12th, 13th & 16th January) where senior staff and other teachers will be on hand to provide any guidance or assistance required.

We would ask you to visit the Main Office where staff will be happy to direct you.

Background information regarding the policy

In September 2013 Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council (NPTCBC) introduced a new Home to School Transport Policy across the area. This policy removed discretionary transport to Voluntary Aided (Faith) schools across Neath Port Talbot. St Joseph’s was the only secondary school in the county that was negatively affected by this decision. We believed this to be wholly unfair and felt that if the Local Authority was exercising its discretionary powers to provide free transport to Welsh Medium schools then it should do the same for Faith schools.

Since 2014 (when the policy was implemented) the school has been in dispute with NPTCBC to encourage them to review their policy as we felt it was discriminatory and unlawful. We are pleased that the Local Authority has this week opened consultation on a change to their Home to School Transport Policy which includes all pupils across the area being treated equally and the reinstating of free home to school transport for pupils attending St Joseph’s.

We would ask you and all friends of St. Joseph’s to complete the short consultation using this link (http://neath-porttalbot-consult.limehouse.co.uk/portal) and respond positively to the changes to the policy that are being proposed.

There is also the option to send a letter or e-mail to the appropriate officers if you wish and these can be sent to Mr Chris Millis, Head of Participation at schooltravelconsultation@npt.gov.uk 

The consultation is only open until January 16th 2017.
