Destinations 2017

Students from Year 13 are now moving onto a number of different and varied pathways including university, apprenticeships and employment. During their time in the Sixth Form students are supported in making this important decision on the basis of what destination is best for them.

The vast majority of our Year 13 students go on to study at a wide variety of different universities – near and far, including Oxford, Kings College London, Bristol, Swansea, Cardiff and other Russell Group institutions.

From Year 12 onwards, students are counselled and advised in the UCAS university admissions process, and their form tutors and senior staff work with them extensively to help craft their applications and personal statements. We have been fortunate over the last two years to be able to draw upon the expertise of others as a member of the Seren Network. The Seren Network gives students the opportunity to visit and hear from universities they may not have thought about (specifically Oxbridge and Russell Group) and also participate in ‘Masterclasses’ with other like-minded students in a variety of different subjects. These ‘Masterclasses’ have been held in a variety of locations across South Wales and are delivered by experts from universities and other areas of academia. Our own Dr Felton and former Head of Sixth Form, Mr Gwynn have delivered such sessions for Seren students as part of our contribution to the Network.

Local universities such as Swansea, Trinity St David and Cardiff are also regular visitors to the school and provide information on their courses. Links with Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board also help students gain experience and make decisions on their future employment and education.

The university destinations of our students this year include those as close as Swansea Bay Campus on Fabian Way to study Business Management to as far as the University of Edinburgh to study Philosophy and Theology.
