 The Level 2 provision within the Sixth Form includes Public Services and Travel & Tourism. Both courses have GCSE/Level 2 equivalences and are available to students as a stepping-stone to Level 3 study.

Public Services

The BTEC Level 2 Extended Certificate in Public Services is a qualification that will help you succeed in a wide range of future careers. The course will help you to develop the basic skills and knowledge desired by employers in the Public Services sector. It particularly emphasises teamwork, leadership skills and communication and provides excellent preparation for future Level 3 courses.

BTEC Level 2 Public Services is the equivalent to 2 GCSEs and can be studied alongside your other options.

BTEC Public Services is a vocational or work-related qualification. This means that you will have the opportunity to gain specific knowledge, understanding and skills that are relevant to your chosen subject or area of work.

All elements of the course are achieved by the successful completion of school-devised assignment tasks. There are no external examinations as part of this course.

The units include:

Unit 1 – Public Service Skills

The aim of this unit is to help you to develop an understanding of public service skills. You will also explore teamwork and communication skills via hands-on activities, enabling you to meet the needs of public expectations. These essential skills are transferable across a wide range of career choices.

Unit 2 – Employment in the Uniformed Public Services

This unit aims to provide you with an understanding of employment opportunities in the uniformed public services. It also enables you to develop knowledge of the main roles and conditions of service and an understanding of their main responsibilities.

Unit 5 – Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services

This unit aims to help you to gain knowledge of the major body systems and of the basic nutrition and lifestyle factors for entry into the uniformed public services.  It also develops learners’ skills in taking part in fitness tests and improving their personal health.

Unit 8 – Adventurous Activities

This Unit will allow you to investigate the benefits of adventurous activities and to practise and review their skills and techniques in an outdoor environment.

Travel and Tourism

With Travel and Tourism being one of the largest employment sectors in the world it is becoming increasingly important to possess skills that will aid you in this sector.

BTEC level 2 in Travel and Tourism is a wide ranging qualification that will take 1 year to complete, providing a firm foundation for a variety of employment paths. The principles that you will learn underpin every organisation – from providing competent customer service to understanding the workings of global trans-national companies.
